Hello World

This is the new website of the Singapore Writers’ Group! Many thanks to Alice Clark-Platts, founder of the Singapore Writers’ Group, and Simon Betts, who is spearheading efforts to improve the group’s reach. See below for more on how the new website serves the needs of the group.

Online Membership Payment (via Stripe)

This is the sine qua non of the new website! Your membership status no longer depends on a manual process. You can now renew your membership online with your credit card, anytime, anywhere. You don’t even need a Paypal account! Choose a one-year membership or an automatically renewing one.

Editable Member Profiles

Members can now create and edit their own profile listings for display on the SWG site anytime. Members now get a data-rich profile page that can include a bio, profile photo and social media links plus project, publication and service listings with their own titles, photos, descriptions and links. Information entered in the publications and services fields will be shown on the Member Publications and Member Services pages.

Legacy Memberships

Many of the first wave members have moved on or moved away. The affordable Legacy Membership level allows them to remain a part of the SWG community.

Our blog team regularly publishes informative content in addition to promoting writing-related events.

Design and Technology Updates

The new website is hosted at the same web address and still runs on WordPress, but the templates and plugins that control its appearance and functionality are basically all new!

In case you’re curious, this is a child theme of the official WordPress twentytwenty theme.

Here are some of the plugins we’re using:

  • Paid Memberships Pro
    Enables online subscription billing.
  • Advanced Custom Fields Pro
    Enables our member profiles.
  • Strong Testimonials
Helps us collect and display testimonial posts.
